Mr. Earl Lee Holland, Jr., of Linden, New Jersey, entered into eternal rest on October 17, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the viewing on Monday, October 23rd from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Leonard-Lee Funeral Home located at 301 E. Blancke St. in Linden, NJ. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 24, at 9:30 a.m. at The Cathedral International located at 277 Madison Ave, Perth Amboy, NJ with internment to follow immediately at Rosedale Cemetery - 750 E. Linden Ave, Linden, NJ.
Earl was born in Plainfield, NJ, to the late Earl and Barbara Holland. He lived in Potters Crossing, a historic village in what is now Metuchen. He then moved to Linden in 1958, where he resided for the remainder of his life. Earl graduated from Linden High School in 1972. An active member of his community, Earl was a proud Eagle Scout and a member of The United Methodist Church of Linden as a youth. His strong foundation with family and friends was a constant thread throughout his life.
For 40 years, Earl worked as a Master Barber. He was the owner of Earl's Cuts and Curls, a unisex barbershop and renowned community space. He began his career as an apprentice at Carnell Barber Shop in Newark and Stamper's in Hillside, NJ. He opened his first business in Roselle, NJ in 1985; at that time, Earl's became the first Black-owned barbershop on Chestnut Street. In 1997, he purchased his own building at 1673 Irving St. in Rahway, where he continued his career until retirement in 2021. He was an avid musician and pool player at Mike's Tavern where we went by the name "The Surgeon General."
Earl was the devoted husband to Charlotte (Hayes) Holland of Roselle for 42 years.
Loving father to his daughter, Dana; eldest son, Anthony and his wife, Gina; and his youngest son, Jordan; Dear brother to Geri (Holland) Casey and Jon Holland; Cherished grandfather to Juliana and Ava.
