Edward Leonard
Boyne, Jr.
July 14, 1932 – July 25, 2022
Edward Leonard Boyne Jr., 90, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday July 25, 2022 surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Edward Leonard and Eleanor Fuller Boyne. He was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife, Ellen Kalinak Boyne, whom he married in 1955.
Edward spent his childhood and youth in Roselle, New Jersey. He was known by many as either Buddy, Red, or Ed. He delighted in telling stories of his tight knit extended family of Aunts, Uncles and Cousins, but especially his beloved Nana Boyne.
He served proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He served in Okinawa, sharing many stories of living in a Quonset hut during monsoon season.
Edward and Ellen raised their family in Rahway, New Jersey. Active in Rahway's CYRC, Edward coached football and assisted with all other sports Rahway CYRC offered. He touched countless lives as a football coach. His focus and philosophy were on fundamentals, teamwork, and above all, fun. He never missed his children's sporting events, often traveling to multiple events on the same day. He retired from Plumber's Local 24 and together with Ellen, was proud that they traveled and explored all 50 states in the USA. He instilled that love of travel and adventure in his children and grandchildren. In addition to being a devoted father, he was an incredible grandfather. Whether traveling to an event they were involved with or helping fix any problem they encountered, he was always there to support them. He took enormous joy in his great-grandchildren, always patiently listening to whatever they were saying. His life lessons of hard work, loyalty and love of family leave an unforgettable mark on us all.
Edward is survived by his children, Kathleen Boyne Slonaker (Mark), Michael Edward Boyne (Sue), and John Thomas Boyne; his grandchildren, Michael Slonaker (Heather), Meaghan Rogers (Josh), Patrick Slonaker (Katie), Stephen Boyne (Megan), Kevin Boyne (Cassandra), Jeffrey Boyne, Gregory Boyne (Liana), Russell Boyne (Kari Ann), Joseph Boyne (Diana), and Amber Boyne; his great-grandchildren, Jack, William, Ellie, Riley, Samuel, Benjamin, Brielle, Ethan and Haylee; his sisters, Carol Martin and Patricia Lacaskey (Jules) and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and "close as family" friends. With heartfelt thanks to very special caregivers; Mandi, Alicia, Loretta, and the staff at Highland Hills Village Community; Cynthia Lester and the team with Right at Home Agency and St Mary's Hospice.
