Elizabeth "Betty" Brek, 92, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 1st surrounded by her loving family. Born October 23, 1931, in Plymouth, PA she was the daughter of the late Joseph Benoska and Mary Vanek Benoska. She was a graduate of Plymouth High School and later moved to New Jersey where she resided for over 60 years to raise her two children.
Throughout the years, Betty would be found spending endless amounts of time with her three grandchildren either at a dance recital, on a sports field, or Sunday mass followed by brunch at Sizzlers. In her spare time, she loved doing crossword puzzles, watching and rooting on her NY Mets & NY Jets, or most recently spending time with her cherished great grandchildren who she absolutely adored.
She was preceded in death by her three sisters Mary Baigis, Catherine Smith, and Rita Kayden.
Betty is survived by her loving daughter & caretaker, Sharon Cocuzza (Jack Helfrich); son John Brek; three adored grandchildren, Kelli, Nicole, and Anthony; and three cherished great-grandchildren, Michael, Juliana, and Isabella; along with many nieces, nephews, & great nieces & nephews. She is also survived by a wonderful group of nurses who provided exceptional care during her 3 years & 10 months on home hospice care especially her home health aide Maria.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Friday, October 4, 2024 in the Leonard-Lee Funeral Home, 301 E. Blancke Street, Linden from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. On Saturday the funeral will start in the funeral home at 8:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John the Apostle Church Clark at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.
