Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service on Friday, January 20, 2023 at 10:00 AM in the Leonard-Lee Funeral Home 301 E. Blancke Street Linden. Entombment to follow in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia, NJ.
Visiting hours are Thursday, January 19th from 4 to 8pm.
Frank was the son of Joseph and Agatha Rumbauskas. His Mom passed away when he was a young boy and he was raised by his Dad, Joseph. Frank was predeceased by his brother John Rumbauskas and his grandson Frank J. Rumbauskas, Jr.
Frank was married to his childhood sweetheart Helen (Matthews) Rumbauskas for 77 years who recently passed away August 23, 2022. Frank lived in the same neighborhood as his wife Helen and they attended the same elementary school together. He was known to ride his bicycle past Helens house to try and get her attention.
Frank and Helen were blessed with six children: Carol Kuzma (Dennis), Janice Carsey (John), Frank Rumbauskas, Sr (Karin), Richard Rumbauskas (Lorri), Nancy Beneciuk (Dennis-deceased), Kenneth Rumbauskas. He enjoyed 14 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren and was affectionately known as "Pop".
Pop had an enormous love of the outdoors, planning hunting trips with his sons and grandchildren and many fishing and crabbing outings with his kids and grandkids. He and his family enjoyed weekends on their boat "SouthWind" at the Jersey shore.
Pop loved his family deeply. He will always be remembered as a strong and mighty man, he was steady, unwavering, and could always be counted on.
Frank and Helen were great providers, they provided a loving home ensuring they had everything they needed. While Helen loved providing a warm and loving home, Pop maintained their home to ensure it was strong, sturdy and secure. He used those same principles and values while raising his family. He believed in working hard and taught his children to do the same while taking care of their families and homes.
He was employed by Weldon Concrete for many years before retiring in 1986.
On Thanksgiving Day when Pop was preparing the Turkey and Stuffing, he would make an extra stuffing pie to pick on and it was usually fought over for a slice. He was also known for his mounds of homemade potato pancakes and the best coleslaw.
His artistic talent was evident in the coloring of Lithuanian Easter eggs using the wax and dye technique, he created beautiful Easter eggs and passed this tradition on to his family.
Pop was a stickler on time, in fact, he was almost always early :-). He could always be counted on to lend a helping hand with family and neighbors on home repairs, house projects as well as homework and school projects with his grandkids.
Pop enjoyed his sweets, cookies and all things blueberry. He also loved family holidays and Birthday gatherings, especially with a glass of red wine and assortment of hors d'oeuvres. On some occasions by the end of the evening he could be heard singing the song "Because of You" to "Helsch".
"Because of you there's a song in my heart
Because of you my romance had its start
Because of you the sun will shine
The moon and stars will say you're mine
Forever, and never to part"
