Jane De Vuyst Bender peacefully joined her Johnny in Heaven on Saturday, August 15, 2026, taking the love of her family and friends from a beautiful life of 99 years lived with her.

Born on Thursday, July 28, 1927, in Fairlawn, New Jersey where she was raised with her sisters by her parents and grandparents. They spent their vacations making memories at their home on Lake Stockholm.

Jane meant a lot to so many. She was a Daughter, Sister, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Great-Great-Grandmother, Aunt, Friend and Neighbor.

Jane was a nurse whose career began at Hackensack Hospital and ended in her retirement in Jacksonville, Florida. Upon moving to Wellington, Florida, Jane became a talented tennis player who won many a tournament well into her eighties.

She took meticulous care of her home and lawn, as she had quite the green thumb and knowledge for gardening. Being outdoors always made her very happy. As did her collection of family heirlooms and antiques. Proper etiquette was of the utmost importance to her and she passed down the value of standing on ceremony to her girls.

Jane could make a mean chili, incredible fudge, and scrumptious chocolate mousse pie — happily handing down her recipes to her granddaughters & great-granddaughters.

Janie met the love of her life at a square-dancing event, they married in August of 1956 and enjoyed every moment of their blissful lives together for more than fifty inseparable years. They were avid travel enthusiasts who took a plethora of fabulous trips all around the globe. They implemented daily cocktail hour and often hosted friends and neighbors to join in their joyous revelry. Their rumpus room parties, themed and costume parties were always all the rage and talk of the town.

Jane is predeceased by her beloved husband, her Johnny, John Edward Joseph Bender, her parents Joseph and Helen De Vuyst (Trenschel), her sisters Susan Froland, Louise Stockbridge, Carol Eberhardt, Josephine De Vuyst, Arlene Vork, and great-great-granddaughter Patsy Rose Batz.

Jane is survived by her loving son John Bender, Jr. and her devoted daughter-in-law Peggy Bender (Miller), her cherished granddaughter and grandson-in-law Diane and Evan Smith, her adored granddaughter and grandson-in-law Lori and Dave Starr, her treasured great-granddaughter and great-grandson-in-law Scarlett and Eduardo Batz, her darling great-granddaughter Aurora Starr, and her precious great-great-granddaughters Briar Rose and Lila Rain Batz a/k/a her chickens.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you pour yourself your favorite cocktail and toast to Janie’s memory and smile in her honor, as that is exactly the way that she would prefer to be celebrated.
