Joseph Sorbera 94, of Surf City, NJ formerly of Linden, NJ entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, November 16, 2022.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Monday, November 28, 2022 at St Andrew R.C. Church 244 Avenel St. Avenel at 11am. (please arrive at church by 10:50am). Cremation is Private. Visiting hours are on Sunday, November 27 ^th from 2 to 5 pm.

Joseph was born in Clearfield, PA. to the late Salvatore and Evelyn Pratt Sorbera and lived in Linden from 1929- 1952. He then lived in Matawan from 1952-1956, then back to Linden from 1956 -1981, then moved to Surf City N.J.

Joe was the owner of Sam's Tavern in Matawan from 1952 to 1956. Then in 1956 he opened Sam's Tavern in Linden which he owned till 1981. Joe then went to work for Resorts Hotel-Casino in Atlantic City from 1982 to 1993 when he retired.

Joe proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1575 Manahawkin. Joseph was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy who died in 1984.

He is survived by his loving sister, Anna Louise Smigelsky and her husband Stephen. Dear uncle to Nancy Tompkins and her late husband Keith, Marie Pizzi and her companion Edward Wojtowicz and the late Robert Pizzi. Step-father to Jack Elliot and the late Terry Elliot and Linda Thoden. Step-grandfather to Cori, Michael, Noel and Timothy. Also survived by several Step great grandchildren.
