Kenneth G Unice, 79 of Linden, passed away on November 4, 2023 at the Center of Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Visitation on Sunday, November 12, 2023 in the Leonard-Lee Funeral Home 301 E. Blancke Street, Linden from 2pm to 5pm. A Memorial Mass will be offered on Monday, November 13, 2023 in St. Elizabeth Church Linden at 11am. (please arrive at church by 10:50am)
Born on Jan. 22, 1944, in Elizabeth General Hospital to the late James and Kathleen O'Reilly Unice. He attended Linden Public schools and graduated from Linden High School in 1961. He continued his education at Monmouth College and graduated with a degree in teaching. Soon after he secured a teaching position at Soehl Junior High School in Linden and later taught at Linden High School. Ken went on to receive his Master's degree as a Reading Specialist from Jersey City State College.
He served as President of the Linden Education Association from 1988 thru 1991.
His long history of volunteering included St Elizabeth's parish as well as serving on the board of a Foster Care Agency in Elizabeth. In addition, he was a mentor and role model to many of his students.
Upon his retirement in 1988 and being an avid reader, Ken enjoyed working at Barnes & Noble in Clark and later at Lord & Taylor in Westfield. His love of Broadway Theater and New York City restaurants found Ken spending many evenings enjoying the Big Apple.
He will be truly missed by his family and friends.
Ken was predeceased by his brother James Gerald Unice. He is survived by his brother Brian and his wife Patricia Caggiano Unice. Dear uncle to Mark Unice, Brian Unice, Jennifer Punko, Cheri Gleason and James R Unice. Loving Godfather to M. Dustin Davis and Cain Gilhooly and dearest friend to Carole Anne and Michael Davis
