Matthew (Mattie) Brophy, 64, born on March 11, 1960 to John and Margaret Brophy in Elizabeth, NJ passed away peacefully at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital Somerset on October 19, 2024.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Thursday, October 24, 2024 in the Leonard-Lee Funeral Home, 301 E. Blancke Street Linden from 10 a.m. till 12 p.m. at which time a Funeral Service will be held. Interment to follow in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.

He was known for his gentle smile and brought joy to all who knew him. Matthew loved being outdoors and going for walks. Matthew touched the lives of many through his years living at both Woodbridge Developmental Center and Green Brook Regional Center. Mattie's family has fond memories of visiting him throughout the years. He taught the family patience and acceptance of people with disabilities.

Mattie was predeceased by his parents, John and Margaret Brophy and his siblings, Tom, David, Michael, and Margaret. He is survived by his siblings and their spouses, Pat and Marian; Jack and Donalyn; Chris and Ann; Mary and Lou; Tim and Lucy; Gerard; and Norah and Gary, as well as his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Mattie's family would like to thank his devoted caretakers throughout the years from Green Brook Regional Center and Woodbridge Developmental Center.

Matthew's presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him, as he leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and genuine kindness. May he rest in eternal peace.
