Retired Linden Police Office Matthew Carew, 70, of Rahway, NJ entered into eternal rest on Friday, October 6, 2023.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral on Wednesday, October 10, 2023 at 9 a.m. from the Leonard-Lee Funeral Home, 301 E. Blancke street Linden. The Funeral Mass will be offered in St. Elizabeth Church Linden at 10 a.m. Interment to follow in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Visiting hours are on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Matthew was born in Rahway. He lived in Winfield Park and Linden before moving to Rahway in 1987.

He began his career in Law Enforcement Career with the Keansburg Police Department before transferring to Linden where he served for 40 years before he retired in 2014. He also attended Union County College earning his associate's degree and a member PBA local 42.

Matthew was the loving husband of 40 years to Rita Gonzales Carew.

Loving father to Andrew and his wife Kerry and Christopher and his wife Zhuri. Dear brother to Thomas Carew and the late Peter Carew, Paul Carew, Rita Carew and Patsy Ann Carew. Cherished grandfather to Mia, Ayva, Chloe and Riley.
