Obituary

Mauricio Fernandez, 68, of Franklin Park, NJ entered into eternal rest on Thursday, October 30, 2025.

Mauricio was born and raised in Havana, Cuba before coming to Miami in 1980. He later moved to Elizabeth then to Franklin Park.

He was a Shop Stewart for the Wakefern Corporation in Elizabeth for 32 years before retiring in 2020.

A loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, cherished brother, uncle, and loyal friend. He left this world far too soon, but his giving heart, light spirit, and love will live on in all who knew him.

Mauricio was the beloved husband of Nancy Marrero Fernandez of 43 years, and the proud father of two daughters Jessica Fernandez and her husband Junior Rivera and Jerika Fernandez who he adored with his whole heart. His two grandsons, Oliver and Theodore were the light of his life—no one made him smile brighter than when he was playing wiffle ball with them in the yard or cheering them on from the sidelines. Brother to Wilfredo, Roberto, Rene and the late Martha.

He had a special way of lighting up any room he walked into, filling it with laughter, kindness, and a sense of belonging. A lifelong fan of the Miami Dolphins and the New York Yankees, he could often be found watching the game while yelling at the screen. He took great pride in his home, loved hosting backyard barbecues surrounded by family and friends, and found joy in the simple pleasures—good food, good company, and a sunny afternoon.

He will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know him. His legacy of love, humor, and generosity will carry on through his family and the countless memories he created.
