Obituary

Norma Jean Brown, a cherished sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend, passed away on March 3, 2025, at the age of 62, in Scottsdale, AZ. She was born on October 12, 1962, in Summit, New Jersey, to John Hugh and Alice Brown. After her father's death, her mother offered her steadfast support and later married Melvin McGee. Norma was proudly raised by her parents and her grandmother, Beanie Mae Goode. Both her parents, including her father and grandmother preceded her in death.

From an early age, Norma was actively engaged in her spiritual community at Fountain Baptist Church, taking part in youth ministry and various mission initiatives. Her faith was a vital aspect of her life.  In 1980, Norma graduated from Summit High where she ran track.  She then continued her studies at DeVry University and obtained her degree in 1993. She also pursued additional education opportunities at the University of Phoenix, focusing on medical lab courses. In 2008, Norma moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she established a successful career. She served as a Shipping and Receiving Analyst at Humana for five years before transitioning to a Production Analyst role at West Pharmaceuticals, where she worked until her passing. Her outstanding work ethic, commitment, and numerous accolades for her accomplishments made her a valued employee and a respected professional.

Norma's life was filled with happiness, and she was known for her lively personality. She had a passion for art, gourmet food, music, shopping, and travel, with a particular fondness for movies—especially horror films and cartoons. Norma was skilled at baking delicious pastries, with her standout creations being delightful apple and blueberry pies. One of her favorite annual traditions was reuniting with childhood friends at the neighborhood barbecue on William Street.

She exuded positivity and had the ability to brighten any room with her contagious laughter. Norma's adventurous spirit, enthusiasm for life, and genuine love for others made her a treasured presence in the lives of all who knew her.

Norma is survived by her caring brother, Gregory and his wife, Natalie, of Linden, New Jersey. She was a devoted aunt to her niece and nephews, John, Essence, Trent, and Kyle, who will always treasure the fond memories of their time with her. Norma is also survived by her aunts, Gwendolyn B. Weaver of Piscataway, New Jersey, and Bertie Mae B. Washington (Robert) of Orangeburg, South Carolina, as well as her uncle, Finley D. Brown of Linden, New Jersey. She had numerous cousins, whom she regarded as siblings, and maintained a close connection with her extended family.

As we celebrate the life of Norma Jean Brown, let us cherish the memories of her laughter, kindness, and indomitable spirit. She leaves behind a legacy of love, joy, and inspiration that will continue to resonate in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know her.
