Obituary

Salvatore "Sal" Minio, a devoted husband, father, Nonno, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was 87 years old.

Born in Bronte, Sicily, in 1937, Sal emigrated to the United States at the age of 17, accompanied by his parents and three of his siblings. They settled in Linden, NJ, where Sal quickly adapted to his new life while preserving the rich traditions of his Italian heritage.

In 1960, Sal returned to Sicily to marry the love of his life, Rita. Together, they embarked on a lifelong journey of love, faith, and family, returning to the United States to build a home and raise their family.

Sal worked tirelessly for 30 years at Monsanto, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. Outside of his professional life, Sal found joy in simpler pleasures. He was an avid gardener, spending countless hours nurturing his vegetable garden and raising chickens. He enjoyed regular trips with his wife to try his luck in Atlantic City. But one of his most beloved traditions was making homemade wine each year. Every autumn, he would select the best grapes, crush, and bottle them, always involving his children and grandchildren in the process. For Sal, winemaking was more than a hobby; it was a ritual that connected him to his roots and allowed him to share a piece of his heritage with others.

Sal's greatest joy, however, was his family. He cherished every moment spent with Rita, his beloved wife of over six decades. Together, they created a warm and loving home filled with laughter, love, and the aroma of delicious Sicilian cooking. Sal took immense pride in passing down his knowledge and traditions to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, ensuring that his legacy would live on for generations to come.

Son of the late Guiseppe and Concetta Minio; Sal is survived by wife, Rita Minio; Children Joe (Erin) Minio, Maria (Michael) Olbrys and Margaret Minio; Grandchildren Michael (Michele) Olbrys, Samantha Nadler, Nicole Nadler, Joe Minio, Jeffrey (Yolanda) Nadler, Nicholas Minio, and Lucas Minio;  Great Grandchildren Giulianna Rivera, Sophia Olbrys, Cianna Nadler, Dillon Minio, Mikey Olbrys and Aurora Cunha; Siblings Biagina (Vincenzo) Russo, Rosario (Judy Briel) Minio, Anthony (Kathy) Minio.  Predeceased by sibling Maria (Salvatore) Finocchiaro.
