Obituary

Ret. Linden Fire Captain, Thomas F. Miller, 91, a lifelong Linden, NJ resident entered into eternal rest on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral on Thursday, July 18th at 9a.m. from the Leonard-Lee Funeral Home, 301 E. Blancke Street, Linden. The Funeral Mass will be offered in St. John the Apostle Linden/Clark at 10 a.m. Interment to follow in Rosedale Memorial Park, Linden. Visiting hours are on Wednesday from 4p.m. to 8p.m.

Tom was born in Linden to the late George and Ellen Boyne Miller. He graduated from Linden High School in 1951. He was employed by Small Lot Stamping Company in Linden. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1953 he served as a medic during the Korean War and was discharged as a Corporal in 1955. He continued working for Small Lot Stamping before becoming a firefighter for the City of Linden in 1958. Tom was promoted to the rank of captain of the department in 1968. He served the department for 38 years, and served as captain before he retired in 1994.

Tom was a member of the Linden Knights of Columbus Council #2859, served on the New Jersey State Legislative Committee for the State Firemen's Association from 1992 to 2002. In 2002 he was elected as the Union County Executive Committee man for the NJSFA until 2014.  He was the secretary/ treasurer for the Linden Fireman's Relief Association, a delegate for the New Jersey State Firemen's Association and was an usher at St. John the Apostle Church Linden/Clark from 1999 to 2019.

He loved fishing and boating. His hobby was woodworking and maintaining his lawn.

Tom was the loving husband of 68 years to Lois Davis Miller. Loving father to Deborah Matlosz and her late husband Lenny, Susan Guenther, Michelle Jerue and her husband Jeffrey, Thomas Miller, Timothy Miller and his wife Fatima. Dear brother to the late George and Francis (String) Miller, Sister Margaret George Miller, Katherine Prohammer, Ellen Miller, and Patricia Sulva.Cherished grandfather to Jessica Matlosz Slawinski and her husband Jason, Stacey Erica Guenther, Alyssa Matlosz Bass and her husband Jason, Matthew Matlosz and his wife Amber, Aniston Maria Miller and Austin Timothy Miller. Great-grandfather to Vivian and Priscilla Bass. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
